The Health Insurance Authority has published the results of independent research on private health insurance in Ireland.
The survey indicates a sizeable increase in consumer satisfaction with health insurance.
The two primary drivers for having health insurance amongst respondents are the cost of treatment in Ireland and the perceived inadequate standard of public services.
The average annual cost of a policy has fallen since 2015.
The report, titled ‘A review of Private Health Insurance in Ireland, 2017’, was undertaken by Kantar MilwardBrown and was commissioned by the HIA.
The HIA has commissioned independent consumer research on the private health insurance market biannually since 2002. The report presents the findings from a national sample undertaken between September and October 2017 in the form of 1,891 face to face interviews across Ireland. Questions were asked of policy and non-policy holders on a wide range of issues pertaining to private health insurance.
